| Description | This report describes how nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that serve HIV-positive women can assess their practices and contributions to the achievement of the three Millennium Development Goals that directly pertain to women's health and status. Presented at the 16th International AIDS Conference in Toronto, this paper presents evidence of widespread discrimination against women living with HIV or AIDS in countries from Argentina to South Africa. Using a rights-based approach, its key recommendations include that such NGOs educate clients about international human rights agreements; employ HIV-positive women as counselors and in a variety of professional roles; and advocate for adoption as an option for HIV-positive people who want to parent.
